At first sight, Poppy Cottage may actually appear to be 'just another timber-framed cottage' in Lavenham...since, from the exterior, its age and importance are not obvious. In fact, when renovations were undertaken in 2009, a discovery was made identifying the building as "an unusually small early-15th Century 'open hall' house of considerable historic interest".
Poppy Cottage is a self-catering and dog-friendly 'complete little home'...it provides the perfect accommodation, with everything you need for a romantic, cosy, relaxing and comfortable stay in beautiful Lavenham, with the added benefit of free Wi-Fi......where you can enjoy the lovely garden, open fireplace or a base for sightseeing around Suffolk, Essex or further afield (including the East Anglian coastline).
If you fancy letting someone else do the hard work and washing up, Lavenham has an excellent and varied choice of places to drink, eat and be merry - including pubs, wine bar, restaurants, award-winning fine dining, cafes, tea rooms, ice cream parlour, butcher, bakery, farm shop, general/convenience store, newsagent, Co-op supermarket and take-aways. All are located within the heart of Lavenham village and within no more than 15 minutes' walk from Poppy Cottage.
Lavenham also has an interesting range of other attractions - including shops (antiques, furniture, jewellery, crafts, clothes, toys, gifts, knitwear, florist and bespoke tailor), art galleries/studios, beauty salons, hair stylists, spa, library, doctor, church, museums, and the famous National Trust Lavenham Guildhall. There is a Tourist Information Centre and Lavenham 'audio tour'.
In addition, you will love the spectacular and sympathetically renovated architecture of the ancient timber-framed buildings of Lavenham village itself...England's best preserved medieval village (including many Grade I and II Listed buildings - such as the luxury Poppy Cottage - displaying wonky walls, sloping floors, quirky features and traditional construction features).
If that was not enough, you can explore the tranquil rural surroundings of Sudbury, the Suffolk countryside and its beautiful villages.
